General
- Work must be fiction written in English between 20,000 and 40, 000 words. There are no genre restrictions. Titles and chapter headings are not included in this word count.
- Entries must be entrant’s original writing, and should not be published or be in consideration for publication elsewhere. This includes online self-publishing (blogs and social networking sites etc.)
- Work must be typed in a Word Document in Courier, Courier New, Times New Roman, Arial or Lucida Grande, font size 12 and double-spaced.
- If you are successful, you will be required to enter into a publishing contract directly with Sandstone Press Limited. You should therefore not submit an entry which may be in conflict with any other contract or arrangement with an agent, publisher or third party.
Entry
- Send via email as a word document to
- Include a separate Cover Sheet detailing:
- Name
- Address
- Telephone Number
- Payment Reference
- Name of the Novella
- Word Count of the Novella
- Synopsis of Novella (500 words max)
- Your name should not be appear on the manuscript.
- When emailing your novella please put your full name and the name of your novella in the subject line, e.g. “James Joyce – The Dead”
Eligibility
- The Novella Award is open to anyone aged 16 or over. There is no upper age limit for entry.
The Award
- The Novella Award reserves the right to disqualify any entry if it has reasonable grounds to believe that the entrant has breached any of these rules, or as made a false declaration on the entry form.
- The Novella Award cannot accept responsibility for any damages, loss, injury or disappointment suffered by any entrant entering the award.
- The Novella Award reserves the right to amend these rules where it is deemed necessary to do so or where the circumstances are beyond the award’s control. Any changes to the rules will be posted on the award’s website.
- By submitting an entry entrants accept all terms and conditions
Judges
- A panel of practicing writers will select a short-list of entrants, and from that list, the leading judges will select the winner. The judge’s decision is final, and no correspondence about their decisions may be entered into.
- The Novella Award reserves the right not to award the prizes, or to reduce the prize money, if, in their opinion, such action is justified for any reason.
